About the Work
Fueled by imagination and wonder, influenced by religion and spirituality, Crum’s works are an exploration of modern mysticism. Through sculpture, installation, painting, and printmaking, she strives to create a gateway between the mundane and the metaphysical. Journeying from the personal to the Universal aspects of the human experience, each work is a steppingstone towards greater understanding. Each show is a sacred space for contemplation and joy. Whether it is achieved by making casts of her own body and face, or sculpting the female figure in clay or paint, the Sacred Feminine voice rings clear throughout every piece. This new work is reflective of the themes of growth, rebirth, and beauty.
Artist Bio
Janice M. Crum is a multidisciplinary artist, spiritualist, and single mother. The core principles of her practice are to connect art with spirituality, feminine beauty with strength, and abstract experimentation with traditional realism. Crum's most recent series of works are an exploration of a time when artists were a direct link between community, celebration, and spirituality, incorporating figures of goddesses, the timeless beauty of nature, and the themes of renewal, hope, and rebirth.
